Today's photo of the week is a sneak peak of the kitchen! I can't believe how great it's turning out. We just got the dishwasher up and running yesterday and the cabinets in a couple weeks ago. We got to unpack all our dishes this week and they all fit! We thought the paint we chose was more of a dark red, but it turned out to be burnt orange. We really like how it turned out though. We love our old-school 50's stove (a craigslist find). Cabinets are IKEA...can you tell? They don't look too IKEA-esque to me, but it was the most economical way to go. Most of this I should be writing in the actual kitchen blog that I'll post at some point in the future, but it's all quite exciting and I really can't wait.
We still have to put up the range hood (above the stove). We got a top-of-the-line, stainless steel range hood for 1/8th of the price on craigslist... Yippee! We are still working on the butcher block countertops. We have to glaze them before bolting them in and they take a while to dry. And then we'll finish off the bar top. So when you're standing at the sink you can look over the bar top into the living room and out the front windows.
Waiting for the butcher block to dry provides some delay in sanding and texturing the drywall in the dining room. Here are a few pictures of it's current state. I spent most of last weekend mudding the drywall. Call me crazy, but this stuff is actually really enjoyable. It feels like a huge art project... complete with it's stress and frustrations, but the reward is fantastic.
